Interview with Santiago, a patient of the #MUSE technique performed at HC Marbella

25/05/2018

Why did you submit to the MUSE technique?

One year and a half ago I was diagnosed with Barrett's esophagus with mild dysplasia. Dr. Aguilar informed me of the Halo-Barrex technique to eradicate Barrett's esophagus, I submitted to it in November 2016 and my life improved considerably. Before that intervention, I had difficulty swallowing food, sometimes I got stuck, pain in the pit of my stomach ...

Once I had surgery, all those problems disappeared, although I had to take an anti-reflux pill in the morning. Dr. Aguilarinformed me about the MUSE technique and I decided to submit to it with the aim of forgetting forever about my reflux problems.

What is the necessary preparation before the procedure?

In my case it was practically nil. The night before the intervention I had to dine lightly and keep a fast of 10 hours before the procedure.

How did you feel after the treatment? Was your recovery fast?

When I woke up from the operation I felt pain in the affected area, but throughout the same day I found myself much better and started the liquid diet. The first 3-4 days after the surgery I had discomfort due to gas distension, but I was recovering really well. After 7 days I was totally normal. After a week I hardly had any symptoms, and I stopped taking anti-reflux medication.

Has your life changed?

I would say that it´s in the process of being changed. I feel pretty good although I still have mild symptoms. I do not take any medication anymore, so I consider it a breakthrough.
